What Is A drop shadow Photoshop?

Drop shadow Photoshop is a Photoshop image editing effect that helps images look realistic by providing depth of field. In the image editing for catalog photographs, advertising images, and Web pages, drop shadow is one of the significant parts. Because drop shadow keeps the images grounded and provides a realistic look to them while editing product images. Photoshop experts must remove background from the photos. This eliminates the surface from under the product and makes it look like floating in the air.

Floating your product in the air creates doubt in your customer’s minds that can reduce your sales. When you erase your product image background, create a drop shadow underneath the product to make it look trustworthy.

Different Types Of Photoshop shadow

If you are willing to add shadow in Photoshop to your product image, you must know the shadows. Knowing this will help you understand what type of shadow your image needs and the actual rate for it.

Based on adding shadows in Photoshop and difficulties, the rates differ from one to another. Your image might require one or multiple types of shadow creation service. Before we go for the real action, I want you guys to create shadows in Photoshop.

The different types of shadows we will talk about today are drop shadow, natural shadow, mirror effect shadow, cast shadow, floating shadow, and reflection shadow.

So without further delay, let’s get started…

Photoshop Drop Shadow

Photoshop shadow effect service is an ideal image-editing solution when it comes to digital photos. When retailers upload their product photos in any online store. The images must check some key points to impress the consumer, and providing product photos with realistic looks is one of them.

Making online product photos trustworthy and providing realistic looks is the primary feature of the drop shadow creation technique. In this technique, experts create shadows underneath the product after they cut off the background from the image.

Photoshop experts create a separate layer to complete the drop shadow, and the photo above the lower layer is high.

The photo shadow size increases to about 70 or so pixels per inch, thus creating a new image. Photoshop drop shadow is easy for larger objects, but when you have small ones such as hair where you have tiny details to cover, it becomes a tough job to do.

But the experts of Silo Path offer professional drop shadow creation regardless of the size and detail of the subject.

Natural Shadow or real shadow Service

Natural shadow or real shadow service makes your images appear lifelike and appealing to serve the users’ expectations. It creates a great view realistic shadow Photoshop. The photos directly coming out of the camera are usually unable to achieve the intended objectives without proper post-processing.

Hence, the natural shadow service helps images to make them impressive. In reality, a Photoshop Shadow Effect can bring the wanted improvement to the company in which photography is essential for business development.

The purpose of the natural shadow service is to make the image drop or photo drop look realistic. In this technique, experts try to add shadows to the pictures just like they are naturally added. l Photographers often look away or do not give importance to natural shadow while they add shadow to their images.

By doing this, they lose the vibe that can connect the viewers to their images. This also can affect online businesses and reduce sales by a large margin. So if you are a beginner, I would suggest you learn and then start adding shadows to your images

Mirror Effect Service

Mirror effect shadow in Photoshop shadow background makes your subject of the image reflective as if it is on a mirror-like surface. This shadow effect service is mainly used on jewelry images and cosmetics product images. It enhances the quality of the product and makes it look premium.

Some products don’t look good in drop shadow or natural shadow because of their shiny and reflective nature. To improve the viewing experience of these product images, the reflection shadow service is the perfect one to go.

It gives the image a more attractive appearance and 3D appearance than natural. This service has become an essential part of the market in today’s online companies. Companies choose this option for their online store, from the beauty product to the medical product to other ecommerce products.

The application of a reflection or mirror shadow effect in an image gives it a robustness and contrast look connected with other surfaces. However, the main difficulty is how to produce the reflection to seem as though it was not purposely made.

Photoshop cast shadows or Existing Shadow

Sometimes experts need to combine multiple photos and make one. But because of the different angles and framing, blending all the images becomes the most formidable challenge for experts. Cast shadow or existing shadow provides the perfect balance of natural look to the image. When experts combine multiple photos into one, this shadow effect service can play a significant role.

Using the Photoshop cast shadow effect, you can magnify the realism of your image more than using the shadow drop. From the name, you might get an idea about this shadow effect service.

When light falls into an object from one side, a dark shadow is created on the other side, reflecting its subject. In cast shadow, experts use such technique and create shadow just like the model or object and then place it right at the opposite side from where the lighting falls.

Floating Shadow Service

We know what drop shadow in Photoshop is and where it is best suited, but what if your image floats in mid-air. You can’t use drop shadow because it’s for the products when placed on a surface not floating in the air. In this scenario floating shadow, service brings you the best result you want. Floating shadow service not only increases the depth of field of your image it also shows an overview of the distance of your product from the surface.

Creating this kind of shadow is more challenging than the typical one as you have to place the shadow precisely, which means the scaling must be perfect.

Only qualified, skilled, and experienced professionals like we have can pull off this challenging task with ease, so all you can do is outsource your files to us.

Now that I have covered talking about all the variations of creating shadows in Photoshop, it’s time to complete the task we came here today. In this Photoshop tutorial of adding drop shadow in Photoshop, I will try to make things simpler so that even a beginner can understand and learn from it.

How To Add drop shadow Photoshop

Being a beginner in photo editing, it is normal not to know how to create a drop shadow in Photoshop, but sometimes it becomes a nightmare for some of you. Your nightmares will end today because you will become an expert and start adding Photoshop drop shadow like a pro after this tutorial. Let’s get started…

Steps 1: Open Your Product Image In Adobe Photoshop

First thing first… select the product image you want to use to add drop shadow in Photoshop and then insert it in the art board of adobe Photoshop cc.

To insert the image, you can drag and drop the image directly, or you can use the menu bar on the top. Click on the File→ Open,→ select the image and click OK.

Step 2: Create a new layer with white background

This step will remove the image background and create a new layer with a white background. To erase the background, you can use any selection method you want, but I will go with the professional one in this tutorial.

I am using the clipping path technique to select the background and then erase the background. If you face difficulties while removing your image background, you can check our in-depth Photoshop tutorial on background removal. In that article, I showed almost every simple and easy step that you can go through to remove your image background.

Let say you have removed the background now, create a new layer from the layers panel and fill it with solid white color.

Step 3: Create Duplicate Layer

Now create a duplicate of the product images layer so that when you work on your image, it doesn’t get ruined by any accident. To create a duplicate layer of your original image, press Ctrl+J.

Step 4: Change the color of the foreground

Drop shadow is created from the subject itself, so we have to fill the foreground color into black. To change the foreground color, click on the foreground and press Ctrl+X. The foreground color will change and turn into black, but you should do it manually if it doesn’t happen.

Please do it manually. Click on set the foreground color and select the black paint from the control panel…

Step 5: Change The Color Of The Duplicate Layer

After making the foreground color black now, we will change the color of the duplicate layer. Select the duplicate layer and then press Shift+Alt+Delete. This will change the color into the black of the image.

Step 6: Create The Shadow

If you have followed my instruction till now, then you will have a black-colored duplicate layer. Now we will create drop shadows out of it. To do that, you will need a free transform technique by pressing Ctrl+t.

This free transform will allow you to move the black portion anywhere you want. As we are going to add drop shadow, we will move the portion underneath the subject.

So to do that, click on the top of the middle square and drag the image down and take it underneath the subject. This will act as a drop shadow.

Step 7: Fix The Position Of The Shadow

After dragging the black image down, it will be in front of the original photo, but a drop shadow comes from underneath the subject. So to fix the position of the shadow, we have to bring the shadow underneath the issue. Now bring the duplicate layer under the original layer, and the shadow will be in the proper position.

Step 8: Add Motion Blur

The shadow we have will be harsh, so that we will add some motion blur. To add blur into the shadow, select the shadow layer and then go to Filter>Blur>Motion Blur. A window will pop up.

Step 9: Smooth The Edges Of The Shadow

From the motion, blur window set the angle to 0 and set the distance according to your requirement, and then click OK to smooth the edges of the shadow.

Now we will add some gaussian blur to it. Again go to Filter and from there, select the Gaussian Blur option. From the gaussian blur window, I will set the radius to 3. You can adjust it as per your requirement and click OK.

Step 10: Add Layer Mask

To make the shadow perfect, we need to use a layer mask with it. Select the drop shadow layer, which is the duplicate layer we have created, and add the layer mask from the layer mask button that is in the right at the bottom of the layer panel.

Step 11: Use Brush Tool To Make The Shadow Perfect

Select a brush from the Brush tool, which you will find in the toolbar. Before you use the brush, remember two things first, the brush size, and the second one is the opacity. These two will determine how your shadow will look.

For my image, I am setting the opacity to 53%, using the default brush size that you can change if you need, and change the foreground color to back.

Just swipe over the drop shadow you have created, and your shadow will slowly blend with the image and look perfect. And we are done! See the output, and I am sure you will get a perfect drop shadow for your image.

Where can you use drop shadow Photoshop

Now that we have created the drop shadow, we must also know where we can use this drop shadow technique, right? But before Photoshop adding shadows you need to know what images of shadows you want.  The purpose of the drop shadow is to make the image look realistic and trustworthy to the viewers.

So this technique is mostly used for product photos for online stores, making catalogs.

Digital product photos are in demand because of the boost of the eCommerce business in this pandemic situation when people are afraid of coming out of their houses and shopping in the mall. Let’s dig deep into this matter and know more about the uses of the drop shadow we are talking about.

Amazon Product Photography

Amazon is one of the largest online stores globally, which means the competition between the retailers over there is also tough day by day. The competition between the retailers comes to a stage where providing jaw-dropping images and trustworthiness becomes compulsory.

So, product photos that retailers produce for amazon product listing must contain make shadow to make the product grounded and realistic. Other than that, retailers also must follow the amazon product imagess requirements, or they won’t be able to submit any images for the listing in the first place.

If you are a photographer, retailer, or product photo editor, you must know how to add drop shadow in the product photo, or the image you will produce will fall short in impressing the audience.

Jewelry Product Photography

Jewelry product photography is another place where shadow plays a vital role. So, the jewelry business owner need jewellery Photoshop.  Jewelry products are shiny and reflective, and so to make them look natural, adding the right amount of shadow is essential.

Jewelry product photos mostly require mirror shadow or reflection shadow service, but some require drop shadow. Most of the time, jewelry product photos need background removal service because of the unclear surface and props to shoot.

After removing the background and the props from the image and using a white background to the jewelry image, it will look unrealistic unless we use a shadow to increase the depth of field.

Portrait Photography

Portrait photography is another genre where the shadow is critical. A portrait of headshot images is the best way to express the feature of a person or model. Using the proper self portrait photography lighting and shadow photographer brings out the best quality a person can offer.

Other than that, portrait photography also uses image retouching to fix the minor flaws of the images. The different types of portrait photos like self portrait photography, black and white portrait photography, or even male portrait photography, you can use the drop shadow with all and make them more authentic.

Footwear Photography

The footwear photography industry is the most modern industry considering other products. Photoshop add drop shadow service makes the footwear look more impressive and authentic to the consumers. When you making shadow on shoes white background, they look realistic.

In footwear images, you will see shadows a lot because only shadows can outline the product’s strength.

Why use drop shadow Photoshop for photographers or online shop owners?

Though I have already answered this question in this section, I will address it directly and thoroughly explain it. It doesn’t matter that you are a photographer or an online shop owner; if you are working with digital photos to make them better, you have to consider Photoshop drop shadow object as the ultimate choice.

Drop shadow can improve the image quality and offer a 3D look with the depth of field to the product.

How To Mask In Photoshop

How to mask in photoshop In this photoshop tutorial for beginners. If you are planning to create some fantastic typography or any custom layout for your business, then you have landed at the right place. Today we are going on a journey where we will learn how to mask in photoshop and make those beautiful custom layouts that you always wondered about.

Before going into the real action, we would do some warm-up by knowing about masking. Most of us still don’t have a clear idea of image masking. In short, clipping masks cut a specific shape from an image and paste it on another. So in this editorial, I will try to tell you what is clipping a mask in photoshop and do some masking tutorials as well.

What Is A Clipping Mask In Photoshop

It might be a million-dollar question when you have no idea but trust me, and the answer is very simple if it is answered in the correct way. First, let’s know the technical definition of the clipping mask. It is a powerful photoshop technique that can control the visibility of the layers. I know it’s a bit tough to understand, so let’s simplify this definition with a simple example.

Imagine a solid black paper with a hole right at the center of it. Now take a hard copy of a photo and place it under the black paper. The black paper will cover the entire image, but only the part of the image under the hole will be visible. Now let’s dive a bit deeper with the example. This time we will use two different images and place image 2 under image 1.

Let’s take the black paper with a hole in it again and now place it over the two images. We will see the picture only through the hole, and the rest of the image will not get shown. Instead, we will see image 2, and this is what the photoshop masking process does to the image.

The process of photoshop clipping mask and layer masking are different though they might provide similar results. The layer mask works with black and white layers and controls the layers’ visibility, and the clipping mask photoshop works with the contents to control them. Enough of sharing the theoretical knowledge because now it’s time to create the clipping mask practically.

To create a clipping mask in photoshop, you don’t need to be a professional photo editor and know about adobe photoshop cc. All you need is to have basic knowledge about some of the photoshop tools. I will guide you through the step-by-step process to create a clipping mask in photoshop so that I will suggest you not miss or skip any of the steps whatsoever. Adobe Photoshop has the option built in to create the clipping mask, and they named the option “Create Clipping Mask.”

Yes, it’s funny and seems very easy that you click on the option, and boom, it’s done. It is easy, and you will agree with me when our journey reaches the finish line, so stay tuned…

Step 1: Open Model Photography Image

First things first, insert the image in the photoshop you want to work on. It can be any image, but for our today’s tutorial, I will use a model photography image, and I would suggest you start with that as well. By default, the image will be in the layer panel holding the name “Background.” The layer will be locked because it’s the original file, and if it wasn’t locked, anything goes wrong during the editing, and the original file will get destroyed.

Pro Tip: After inserting a photo before you start editing, create a duplicate layer of it. For this tutorial, I named it Layer 1.

Step 2: Create A New Layer

For our Photoshop clipping mask process, we require multiple layers on top of one another, creating another layer. The new layer option is on the bottom side of the layer panel. Please create a new layer from the new layer icon and place it right below layer 1 and name it Layer 2.

We can also create new layers from selection in photoshop, but I prefer creating the new layer first.

 Step 3: Make A Selection

Remember the hole on the black paper? Selecting a specific part of the image will work as the hole here.We will create the selection using a photoshop selection tool, but one crucial thing to remember here is that we must keep layer 2 selected. I will use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to select the image, but you guys can use any selection tool to create your desired shape.

Step 4: Fill The Selection

We have selected our desired shape over the image, so now we will fill our selection area. Now you can turn off the visibility of Layer 1 if you want, and I would suggest you do that. The selected portion of our image is going to be used as a clipping mask. To do that, we have to fill the selection, or we will lose our desired selection when we deselect it. Go to the menu bar at the top, select Edit→ Fill, and select any color or pattern you want. If you followed my tutorial from the first, you would have a portion chosen with color.

Step  5: Deselect

Now we don’t require the selection anymore as we have filled the selection area with color. So we will deselect it, and to do so, we have to go to the menu bar again and click on Select→ Deselect.

Step 6: Photoshop Clipping Mask

The moment we were waiting has arrived, and after this step, we will get our clipping mask. Select layer one, and from the menu bar, click on Layer→ Create Clipping Mask and Layer 1 will automatically become a clipping mask. Now you can use this layer as a clipping mask and add any image you want under it to use as the background.

A bonus step only for you guys…

Step 7: Move The Subject In The Image

If your clipping mask contains any subject and wants to change its placement, you can do it in a simple way. Select Layer 1 and then use the Move tool and drag the subject to change the subject’s placement.

Advance Tips To how to mask in photoshop A Pro

Okay, we have got our clipping mask layer, and now we can use this layer on top of any image we want, but what if we wish for a subject to be cut accurately and then make it a clipping mask. The secret of making your clipping mask layer more advanced and professional is in the selection process we used earlier. Let say you want to cut a model from a background and place it on another backdrop. how to remove white background in photoshop

How To Remove White Background In Photoshop

Today we are going to learn step by step guide to remove white background Photoshop. Adobe Photoshop is the number one professional photo editing software, and experts can change an ordinary image to a jaw dropping one using this. Learning Photoshop isn’t either a tough or an easy task as you must know about the editing tool to use it, and some of the tools are easy, but some of them require professional learning to master.

What is remove the white background in Photoshop?

Sometimes product photographers capture the perfect image of the day. But due to an inappropriate backdrop or unwanted object or unclear and uneven white background, the image loses its charm.  In that case, they use photo editing software like adobe Photoshop to get rid of the background. Photoshop has several professional editing tools to remove white background from an image. In this editorial, I will walk you through every background eraser tool in Photoshop so that you can use all of them whenever you need them.

You can divide the process of removing the background from the image into two major steps. The first step is to select the background using the selection tool, and the second step is to remove the background.

So without further delay, let’s dive into the in-depth Photoshop tutorial and know the answer of how to remove white background in Photoshop.

Step By Step Guide How To Remove White Background In Photoshop

Step 1: Open Adobe Photoshop Software

For this tutorial and to get the best result, I would suggest using Adobe Photoshop CC’s latest version. Many images editing software is easier to use, but with adobe Photoshop cc, you get complete control over the tools to edit every detail of your image. So the first step is to open the Photoshop software on your pc, and when the software is open, a blank canvas will show up.

Step 2: Take Your Images in Photoshop

The second step is to open the image that needs editing in Photoshop. There are two ways that you can use to open the image. One is just drag and drops the image in the blank canvas, and the photo will be good to go for editing. Another one is to open the image using the menu bar. Go to the File menu and click on that. A drop down menu will appear and from there, select Open.

Now a desktop window will appear and from there, select the image file you want to open. After selecting the image by navigating through your desktop folder, click on the Open, and the image will be opened in Photoshop.

Step 3: Unlock The Layer

When you open an image in Photoshop, a layer with the original file will be generated at the right side of the Photoshop. The area where it appears is also known as the Layers Panel.

The layer holds the original image file, and it is locked by default so that if you edit the image and anything goes wrong, the original file remains intact.

But before you start editing, you must unlock the layer.  And unlocking it will open the possibility of destroying the original image.

So you should create a duplicate layer in Photoshop and work on that layer so that the original layer remains locked and you can have your original image whenever you want.

To create a duplicate unlocked layer, all you need to do is press Ctrl+J (for Windows) and Cmd+J (for mac OS).

A duplicate layer will be created under the original layer where you can show all editing skills however you like.

Step 4: Choosing a Photoshop Selection Tool

Until now, whatever we have done was just preparation for starting today’s image editing on removing backgrounds from the image. Now it’s time to start the real action.

I have already mentioned the two major steps of erasing white background from a photo where; the first one was the selection process, and Photoshop has multiple selection tools. The first one that we will use is the Pen Tool.

Clipping Path Photoshop Technique: how to remove white background in photoshop

You may have scratched your head several times by asking yourself how to use a pen tool in Photoshop to cut out images. Well, using the pen tool in Photoshop, we will do the clipping path Photoshop technique and create paths around the subject to select it. The image clipping method is a manual way for our selection, and it is considered one of the most accurate selection processes. So to use the pen tool in Photoshop, you have to go to the toolbar on the left, and there you will see a tool with a pen icon on it.

Step 1: Select the Pen Tool from the toolbar and the cursor will change into a pen. Now you can start creating paths around the edges. If you don’t know how to use the pen tool in Photoshop, then read this carefully.

select the pen tool

Step 2: To create a path, you need to click on edge, which will create the starting anchor point. Then take the cursor to the image edge where you want to draw clipping path and click after where want to create another anchor point.

A path will be created between these two anchor points, and by repeating this method, you will be able to create the path around the subject.

Let’s say we have completed creating paths around our subject and got the selection. Now it’s time we see how to remove background from the image after selecting the object. After completing the selection now, we will remove the background from the image. To do that, we have to invert our selection as we have selected the subject using the Photoshop pen tool.

Step 3: To invert the selection and select the background instead of the subject, we have to first click on the Layer Mask from the layers.

Now go to Image→ Adjustment and select Invert from the menu bar if you want to use the keyboard shortcuts for inverting, then press & hold the Ctrl ( for Windows)/Cmd ( for macOS) and press the I button.

Step 4: After inverting the selection, press the Delete button, and the background will be deleted.

Using The Background Eraser Tool: how to remove white background in photoshop

Above we saw the use of a pen tool to erase the background, and now we will see another Photoshop tool that is the background eraser tool in action. With this tool, you will be able to remove the background from the image that contains hair and fur.

Background of the images with unclear or hair and furry edges are tough to remove using the pen tool, so that we will use Photoshop background eraser tool for such photos.

Step 1: So open hair & fur images in adobe Photoshop to remove white background from behind the hair. You can drag and drop the image directly onto the Photoshop dashboard or insert the menu bar’s image.

Step 2: Again, like before, create a duplicate layer in Photoshop to protect the main file.

Step 3: Now, as we are editing on a white background, we need to create a high contrast background to be able to see clearly around the hair area. We need to create another layer to create a high contrast background. Click on the layer button and create a new layer from below the layer panel.

Step 4: Paint the new layer with a solid contrast color like red using the Paint Bucket tool from the left toolbar.

Select the tool and click on anywhere of the newly created layer.  And the layer will be painted. Move the new painted layer right under the background layer

Step 5: Now select the Photoshop background eraser tool from the left toolbar. Before starting to remove the background, these two settings Discontinuous and Protect Foreground Color. They will protect the layers from blending in a while, erasing the background. Now select the Brush and also the brush size according to the requirement. Also, play with the tolerance level and see what fits your image before you start erasing.

Step 6: Start hovering your cursor by pressing the left button around the edges where the model’s hair touches the background. The white background will get erased, and you will see the high contrast solid color layer you created and put underneath it.

N.B.: Zoom in to the picture and see how well the background is erasing. If you find any issue try to change the brush size and the tolerance level. And you will get precisely what you needed.

Now clean up and remove the rest of the backgrounds for Photoshop to edit with the brush tool, and you will get your white background removed.

Remove background Using Photoshop Object Selection Tool

Photoshop object selection tool is another background removing tool that is simpler and easier than the previous two. Let’s dive into the tutorial and see how you can remove the image’s background using the object selection tool.

Step 1: Again, we will insert the image that we want to edit in Photoshop and erase the backdrop. Drag and drop the image on the Photoshop dashboard or go to the menu bar and insert from there.

N.B.: Use the object selection tool with simple edges to get a seamless and accurate selection.

Step 2: Now, select the object selection tool go to the left side toolbar, and click on the selection tool icon. A side menu will show, and from there, select the Object Selection Tool. I have told you that this tool is more accessible than the previous two.  Because you don’t need to draw any path or brush over anything. After selecting the object selection tool, put your cursor over the subject, then click and drag over it. Your subject will be selected, and if all the edges are clear, then the selection will be perfect and accurate.

Step 3: After selecting the subject, it’s time to remove the background from the image with the object selection tool.

Step 4: We need to invert the selection from the subject to the background and hit the Delete button as we did in the pen tool process

NB: To prevent the article from being a lengthy one, I won’t repeat background removal with inverting the selection. I would suggest you see the pen tool section to know the process.

Remove background With Lasso Tool Photoshop

Photoshop lasso tool is a freehand object selection tool in Photoshop. If you want to select your subject manually but don’t want to use a pen tool because of the creating paths and anchor points, then the lasso tool will be the perfect tool to remove white background from the image.

Let’s see how to use the lasso tool and erase the image background.

Step 1: Open images in adobe Photoshop by dragging and dropping them on the Photoshop editing canvas.

Step 2: Go to the left side of the Photoshop, and from the toolbar, panel click on the lasso icon. A side menu bar will pop up, and there you will see three types of lasso tools.

Each of them offers different types of selection. The first one will allow you to select an object however you want. Whereas the second one (The Polygonal Lasso Tool) enables you to select with a straight line and the third one (The Magnetic Lasso Tool) automatically attaches with the object’s edges. Select according to your demand.

Step 3: Select any one of them according to your requirements and create an outline over the edges of the object to select the edges.

create an outline

Step 4: After completing the selection over the object, invert the selection and select the background. Click on the delete button, and the background will be deleted.

The Quick Selection Tool also works like The Magnetic Lasso Tool. So if you want to use a quick selection tool instead of a lasso, you can go for it without any doubt.

You can find the quick selection tool under the lasso tool. All you need to do is select the tool and drag the cursor around the edges of the object, and the object will be selected.

Using The Photoshop Magic Wand Tool

Photoshop magic wand tool is the fastest process to select anything but not the perfect one. With a magic wand tool, you will be able to select and remove the background for hard and clear edges.

Step 1: To remove the image background using the magic wand tool first, you have to insert your image to the Photoshop dashboard.

Step 2: Now go to the left side toolbar panel where you will find a selection tool icon, and by expanding it, you will reach the magic wand tool.

Step 3: Select the magic wand tool and press on the area you want to select. Play with the tolerance level to find the exact selection, and as soon as you find the perfect selection, it’s time to

The quick selection tool can do the same, but the quick selection tool can work on slightly more complex images as well, which the magic wand tool can’t. Another difference between these two is the magic wand tool removes the unselected portion of your image, where the selection tool removes the selected part of the picture.

Step 4: So, if you have selected the background, then the main object will get separated. To prevent that Invert the selection, and when the subject gets selected, hit the Delete button to remove the background.

Remove Background Using Online Tool

In this era of advanced technology, you can do almost anything online, which means you also can remove the image background online for free. You will find tons of image editing and especially background removing online tools for free.

Remove BG, removal.ai are some of the best online image background removal tools that people use.

They can do some great work and remove the background almost perfectly, but these tools are static, which means they can erase the backdrop of only simple images.

Whenever you upload a slightly more complex image, the online tool will perform miserably and will prove to be a big disappointment.

So after talking about most of the selection tools in Photoshop, you can learn and erase image background. Now you might get confused and scratching your head by asking yourself one question, “Which is the best perfect tool to remove white background Photoshop?”

Well, being a professional photography and post processing expert, I would go for the pen tool to be the ultimate winner.

But I would also add that if you aren’t a professional editor and you don’t require professional background removal, then you can go for the simplest one of them all. The reason for choosing the pen tool will be clear to you after reading the small comparisons between the pen tool and other tools.

Photoshop pen tool vs. Background Eraser Tool

The Photoshop background eraser tool does work very well with the hairy and furry edges, but it’s not so productive apart from that. On the other hand, the pen tool lets the user select every single element of the image manually. Professional photographers and editors like to control every part of the image. It allows them to play with their imagination and creativity.

Photoshop pen tool vs. Lasso Tool

Lasso tool provides you three types of tools, and you won’t be able to do anything outside those three tools, which is also a limitation for the users. If you are in a hurry or you don’t require a perfect cut, then lasso tools will be enough to save your day.

With the lasso tool, you will be able to draw shapes manually, but the pen tool allows experts to define the shapes, not just draw them. Because of the anchor points of the pen tool, experts can define any shapes they want.

The reason people feel uncomfortable and demotivated learning pen tools because it requires a lot of practice to master.

I would suggest you start with simple images like images with a bottle in it or a box or a simple ball to learn the pen tool. Using these simple shaped objects will give you confidence, and you won’t feel bored while doing it as well.

Quick Selection Tool vs. Object Selection Tool

Both the tools offer the same thing but in a different way. With the quick selection tool, you require to drag your cursor around the edges of the subject to get an accurate cut. But with the object selection tool, you need to draw a square over the object, and as soon as you release the cursor, the tool selects the edges of your subject. Though both of them are considered one of the most straightforward selection tools in Photoshop to remove image background, you can start the argument of which one is the best.

Automated Tool Vs. Magic Wand Tool

All the automated tools we see online do a fair amount of job for free, but it isn’t really enough, and you can’t even change or tweak a bit to fix the issues by yourself. On the other hand, the magic wand tool does speed up your selection process by the quick auto selection mechanism, but you can change the selection if you require fixing any issues.

People nowadays are going for automated tools to remove their picture background because they have to put in a very little amount of time and effort.

They can only upload the image, sit back, and boom; the background is removed. But achieving the same accuracy is what the automated tools are still missing. While removing the color background from behind the hair, Photoshop beginners always get into trouble.

It happens because they don’t know which tool is perfect for removing the hair area’s color background. The shortest answer is the Photoshop eraser tool, but it doesn’t end here. You have to practice again and again to learn how to remove the white background from behind the hair in Photoshop.

Pro Tip:

Use the clipping path using the pen tool and also the clipping mask using the eraser tool to get the perfect background removal in Photoshop.

Portrait photos have both clear and unclear edges. That’s why cutting out the background for a portrait photo using both the tools will be the ultimate wise decision. Not only portrait photos but also every model photo is edited by combining both the eraser tool and pen tool.

Almost all the online stores nowadays provide their image guidelines which are why retailers also need to follow all the image requirements to be able to upload their product photos. Because of the requirements, product photographers have started to shoot product photos on white background.

But no matter how photographers shoot the product photos on a white background, the images must undergo post-processing and white background removal for product photos. You can remove any white background from the image using any of the above tools.  White background removal plays a significant role in the product photo and the eCommerce sector.

Without product photos, you can’t imagine uploading your product image to any eCommerce store. Most of the online stores impose their strict product image requirements over retailers that they can’t ignore. It doesn’t matter if your product image contains models or objects you must convert them into a white background before you upload them. Along with all these recommendations, you must keep in mind that we need to remove the white background and when we don’t.

If you want to produce the best images, then knowing the differences between these two is a must. Let us know when we should remove the background from the image and when we don’t need to use it.

When we need:

  • Follow the image requirements of eCommerce stores.
  • You don’t get the accurate white backdrop.
  • Present the products feature
  • Get the focus of the foreground than the background.
  • Make product catalog
  • Require transparent background

When we don’t:

  • Create contextual product image
  • The background complements the subject.
  • Share photos on social media

Sharing images on social media has become a trend nowadays. You don’t need to use background removal for pictures on social media isn’t completely accurate. Because sharing images with or without background depends on the context and the purpose of the image. For simple background removal of an image that you want to share on social media, you might be considering online tools like clipping magic and remove bg. Still, these online tools cannot provide accurate image clipping every time.

You cannot even get an even cut of a model image with these automated background removing tools. Yes, they are using machine learning, A.I., and all to detect the edges accurately, but it’s not enough yet. The machine cannot achieve what a human touch can. Hand drawn clipping paths require years of practice and an eye to catch every detail, and experts perform it with years of dedication and concentration.

The clipping path, also known as the silo path, is considered one of the best professional ways of removing image background because of its accuracy. Experienced photo editors can offer you the finest image cut out that an online A.I. tool never can.
